CASE STUDY:
Village Barber Shop

Who: Village Barber Shop (Old Town, Chicago)

Challenge: Gain new clients but not too many as the owner is happy working a few days a week.

Research Solution: Provide a brief survey to customers using the Net Promoter Score framework and garner participation by effective signage in the store. Offer a free haircut to one randomly selected participant. Survey results were collected via a traditional “Suggestion box” as opposed to online as it was assumed many of Village Barber Shop’s customers would prefer paper. Using the findings, the owner of the shop made minor adjustments to the customer experience and advertised the high customer satisfaction feedback (and certificate in his store window).

Outcome: The number of new clients/customers increased by 20 in two months.

Free takeaway: Listen to your customers and quantify their input. If you have something positive to share (like social proof) about your store/shop, advertise it where people can see it (i.e., in the window) or online.
